Takt Open Studio Exhibition - July 2010

We had a pretty good turnout this Sunday, for Takt's open studio exhibition.

It's 23 days since I arrived. Not a lot of time to come up with 'something' when you are trying to balance production with experience.

Participating artists: Adam Gooderham (Australia), Chris Dennis (England), Beth Yarnelle Edwards (USA), Michaela Gleave (Australia), Filipa Guimaraes (Portugal), Minna Hagman (Finland), Adair Imrie (Australia), Lee Yujin (Korea), Liz Rodda (USA) , Sarah Rushford (USA).

Berlin Biennale: Cameron Jamie

I'm not sure if I'd ever seen ceramics presented in the dark before.

A gallery employee handed you a dim 'lantern' as you entered with which you illuminated (and tried not to bump into) large heavily glazed stalagmites in the first room. In the second room you looked up to see an assortment of grotesque and carnivalesque masks (that reminded me of James Ensor paintings) hanging from the ceiling.

Berlin Bienale: Petrit Halilaj @ KW.

Dorotee Van Biesen @ AKA

AKA is a new hybrid space in which coexist one art gallery, one body-art atelier (tattoo and piercing) and one café. It is set in Berlin Neukölln.

(I hope to leave Berlin with 'something' from here).

2 Pieces in New Orleans.

Beached (left) and Plus or Minus (right) can still be seen until July 24th in New Orleans, at Coup d'oeil Art Consortium's summer group show : Dew Point

Dirty Bird by Steven James Scott @ Create Berlin.

I have just returned from the opening of Dirty Bird, photos by Steven James Scott. Proceeds from the show will be donated to The Audobon Society, to benefit ongoing bird rescue & cleanup efforts in the Gulf.

It would have been nice to see the images blown up to a size to match the scale of this monumental fuck-up.

Bruce Nauman: Dream Passage @ Hamburger Bahnhof, Museum fur Gegenwart Gegenwart.

Really enjoyed Dream Passage, Bruce Nauman's first major retrospective in Berlin.
It was the first time I'd seen so many of his works in one place, made all the more effective with comparatively few visitors while I was there.

- (I didn't wait around for the key).

Anselm Kiefer @ Hamburger Bahnhof, Museum fur Gegenwart.

I visited major museums in London and New York this year, only to find that the Kiefer's in the collection were not on show. It was nice (if not unexpected) to find he has his own room in the Hamburger Bahnhof, Museum fur Gegenwart.
